I have two connections: ppp0 and ppp1. I am having trouble with ppp1 (it connects, but then the modem LEDs just flash incessantly. I enabled "Debug connection" and discovered something that might be the cause of my problem... but I don't know what to do about it. Here are the results in /var/log/messages (heavily abbreviated): -- Jun 30 14:23:33 localhost ifup-ppp: pppd started for ppp1 on /dev/modem at 115200 Jun 30 14:23:34 localhost chat[1382]: abort on (BUSY) Jun 30 14:23:34 localhost chat[1382]: abort on (ERROR) Jun 30 14:23:34 localhost chat[1382]: abort on (NO CARRIER) Jun 30 14:23:34 localhost chat[1382]: abort on (NO DIALTONE) Jun 30 14:23:34 localhost chat[1382]: abort on (Invalid Login) Jun 30 14:23:34 localhost chat[1382]: abort on (Login incorrect) Jun 30 14:23:34 localhost chat[1382]: send (ATZ^M) Jun 30 14:23:34 localhost chat[1382]: expect (OK) Jun 30 14:23:35 localhost chat[1382]: ATZ^M^M Jun 30 14:23:35 localhost chat[1382]: OK -- got it Jun 30 14:23:35 localhost chat[1382]: send (ATDT98525565^M) Jun 30 14:23:35 localhost chat[1382]: expect (CONNECT) Jun 30 14:23:35 localhost chat[1382]: ^M Jun 30 14:23:59 localhost chat[1382]: ATDT98525565^M^M Jun 30 14:23:59 localhost chat[1382]: CONNECT -- got it Jun 30 14:23:59 localhost chat[1382]: send (^M) Jun 30 14:23:59 localhost chat[1382]: expect (name: ) Jun 30 14:23:59 localhost chat[1382]: 115200^M Jun 30 14:24:00 localhost chat[1382]: ^M Jun 30 14:24:00 localhost chat[1382]: ^M Jun 30 14:24:00 localhost chat[1382]: Enter your username: -- got it Jun 30 14:24:00 localhost chat[1382]: send (USERNAME^M) Jun 30 14:24:00 localhost chat[1382]: expect (word: ) Jun 30 14:24:00 localhost chat[1382]: dtaylor^M Jun 30 14:24:00 localhost chat[1382]: Enter your password: -- got it Jun 30 14:24:00 localhost chat[1382]: send (PASSWORD^M) Jun 30 14:24:00 localhost chat[1382]: expect (V34+ : ) Jun 30 14:24:00 localhost chat[1382]: ^M Jun 30 14:24:01 localhost chat[1382]: Student HS2 V34+ : -- got it Jun 30 14:24:01 localhost chat[1382]: send (ppp^M) Jun 30 14:24:01 localhost pppd[1380]: Serial connection established. In my mind it should say "Connect: ppp1 <--> /dev/modem", shouldn't it? (ppp1 was the connection I initiated, not ppp0) After this the modem lights just go haywire! I wrote a little program to do a slow read of /var/log/messages and beep when that "Connect: " line occurred. Yep, the beep coincided with the weird flashing of the lights. And it doesn't just happen for a short time... it goes on and on. I can't deactivate the connection (via netcfg) either. I press deactivate and its status becomes "inactive" but the lights still flash. I have to manually kill the processes and turn the modem off and then on again. Ple-e-e-e-e-ease, will someone help me??? I'm stuck and minicom is really starting to @#$% me off!
