I have two connections: ppp0 and ppp1. I am having trouble with ppp1
(it connects, but then the modem LEDs just flash incessantly. I enabled
"Debug connection" and discovered something that might be the cause of
my problem... but I don't know what to do about it.
Here are the results in /var/log/messages (heavily abbreviated):

Jun 30 14:24:02 localhost pppd[1380]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/modem

Is that last line indicative of what the problem may be? In my mind it
should say "Connect: ppp1 <--> /dev/modem", shouldn't it? (ppp1 was the
connection I initiated, not ppp0)
After this the modem lights just go haywire! I wrote a little program
to do a slow read of /var/log/messages and beep when that "Connect: "
line occurred. Yep, the beep coincided with the weird flashing of the
lights. And it doesn't just happen for a short time... it goes on and
on. I can't deactivate the connection (via netcfg) either. I press
deactivate and its status becomes "inactive" but the lights still
flash. I have to manually kill the processes and turn the modem off and
then on again.
Ple-e-e-e-e-ease, will someone help me??? I'm stuck and minicom is
really starting to @#$% me off!
Regards,
David Taylor.
