SuSE uses 'rpm'. SuSE is a nice distribution for end-users, but did not
meet our particular needs (for example, we need all configuration files to
be under /etc because of the way we network-mount our drives...
configuration files stuck elsewhere end up getting shared between machines
when they shouldn't be, and SuSE does such nastiness). 

The nicest thing about SuSE is the huge number of packages provided. 
You'll almost never have to download something from 'contrib' (a good
thing, because SuSE's FTP server didn't HAVE a 'contrib' directory the
last time I looked). The not-nicest thing about SuSE is the lack of
X-windows-based configuration tools. While I've blasted Red Hat in the
past for not having command-line based configuration tools, the opposite
is just as bad :-(.
