This error is coming from your "X" server. Sounds like you have an older
commercial "X" server that does not handle all modern "X" requests. It may
also be possible that you're not running the right version of the "xforms" 
library (should be 0.88 for LyX 0.12.0).  I have successfully run LyX
0.12.0 on several systems without a problem, so I doubt it's LyX itself.
