By default, fetchmail will distribute all the messages downloaded from the
remote host to the localhost at port 25, and they are in turn usually handled by
sendmail. By specifying the mda (mail delivery agent) as procmail, you are
asking fetchmail to relay all messages to procmail instead, thereby treating
them all as local mail. Should this actually solve your problem of slow
downloading, then chances are, there were already some problems with your local
smtp agent. Hope that helps to explain your problem.
