Telnet in with your userid then "su -" to root, the "su -" is different than
that of a normal "su". It replaces your enviroment with roots(meaning it is
just as if you signed in as root, no difference). When you use only "su" you
assume the same priveledges as root but your enviroment is still your
userid.

*Hint - if you did want to sign in with root, check the /etc/securetty file
there is where the change needs to be made.
