I installed the i386 version because I can only find the following packages for i686: glibc-2.2.5-42.i686.rpm glibc-debug-2.2.5-42.i686.rpm kernel-2.4.18-19.7.x.i686.rpm kernel-debug-2.4.18-19.7.x.i686.rpm So for the kernel I lack the kernel-source and kernel-headers and also the kernel-utils (although I don't know if I need that last one: Right now I have: [M8ram@localhost M8ram]$ rpm -qa | grep kernel kernel-utils-2.4-7.4 kernel-2.4.18-3 kernel-source-2.4.18-19.7.x kernel-doc-2.4.18-19.7.x kernel-2.4.18-19.7.x [M8ram@localhost M8ram]$ rpm -qa | grep glibc glibc-2.2.5-42 glibc-debug-2.2.5-42 compat-glibc-6.2-2.1.3.2 glibc-utils-2.2.5-42 glibc-profile-2.2.5-42 glibc-kernheaders-2.4-7.16 glibc-debug-static-2.2.5-42 glibc-devel-2.2.5-42 glibc-common-2.2.5-42 [M8ram@localhost M8ram]$ rpm -q dateconfig dateconfig-0.7.5-7 After upgrading the kernel (see sig) I followed your instructions: [M8ram@localhost M8ram]$ su Password: [root@localhost M8ram]# cd /etc [root@localhost etc]# rm localtime rm: remove `localtime'? y [root@localhost etc]# rm adjtime rm: remove `adjtime'? y [root@localhost etc]# cd /mnt/shared/rpms/ [root@localhost rpms]# rpm -q glibc-common glibc-common-2.2.5-42 [root@localhost rpms]# rpm -Uvh --force glibc-common-2.2.5-42.i386.rpm Preparing... ########################################### [100%] 1:glibc-common ########################################### [100%] [root@localhost rpms]# dateconfig Shutting down ntpd: [FAILED] [root@localhost rpms]# date Wed Jan 22 00:59:26 CET 2003 [root@localhost rpms]# date -R Wed, 22 Jan 2003 00:59:30 +0100 [root@localhost rpms]# lh *time* bash: lh: command not found [root@localhost rpms]# ls -lh *time* ls: *time*: No such file or directory [root@localhost rpms]# ls -lh ./*time* ls: ./*time*: No such file or directory [root@localhost rpms]# ls -lh /etc/*time* -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 46 Jan 22 00:59 /etc/adjtime -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1.0k Jan 22 00:59 /etc/localtime -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1.2k Oct 10 16:52 /etc/localtime.rpmnew -rw-rw-r-- 1 root root 15 Sep 4 10:18 /etc/timezone [root@localhost rpms]# ls -lh /usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Brussels -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1.0k Oct 10 16:47 /usr/share/zoneinfo/Euro pe/Brussels [root@localhost rpms]# So the file doesn't seem to get corrupted anymore. I tried the following: I opened up the RH-service configuration tool and started the ntpd before I started dateconfig. In the dialog box the "enable network..." was activated so I couldn't alter the hour, when I deselected that option and set the clock to the right hour everything seems to go fine... [M8ram@localhost M8ram]$ dateconfig Shutting down ntpd: [ OK ] [M8ram@localhost M8ram]$ date Wed Jan 22 00:16:19 CET 2003 [M8ram@localhost M8ram]$ date -R Wed, 22 Jan 2003 00:16:22 +0100 Let's hope this still works tomorrow... I'll keep you posted, and if somebody wants to shoot me now - because this was so obvious - please forgive me... And thanks for the help! But first, let's wait until tomorrow, I once started writing a victory mail about this, and then I noticed nothing was right at all!
