Thanks a lot Larry. Changing the sendmail.cf file worked like a charm. I also found that telnet had disable=yes. Changed it to no, restarted xined and Lo and behold, everything's fine.
Thanks again. You should have a file for each service that is offered. If you look at any of the files there should be a line "disable = yes" by default. Make sure it is set to no. Then restart xinetd with "service xinetd restart". You said that you can't connect to sendmail but that sendmail is working because you have mailed stuff out with it. If, as you described, iptables is not set up, then check the mail logs when you send something to the box. It may be a configuration issue with sendmail not allowing mail from other machines. A place to check on sendmail is the sendmail.cf file in /etc. There is a line "0 DaemonPortOptions=Port=smtp,Addr=127.0.0.1, Name=MTA". You want to rem that line out and restart sendmail. Larry S. After I finished the install, I installed qpopper4.0.4 without a problem (www.qpopper.org) I can telnet on port 110 and get the qpopper server However, sendmail, ftp, and telnet won't respond (I get a connection refused) There is no firewall on this machine. I did an ipchains -L and everything is wide open. I looked in /sysconfig for an iptables file, none exists. According to S08iptables, if no config file exits, it exits without running. Sendmail is running because I can do a mail to another machine without a problem. What do I have to change to make the machine especially sendmail and telnet and ftp available to other machines on the network?
