man page format RH8 - strange char's

Hi,

Im seeing all sorts of strange characters under rh8 in the man pages, for example:

āf|āāforce
Donāt ask for confirmation on drop database; with multiple comā
mands, continue even if an error occurs



locale set wrong? any ideas on a fix?
