What model Thinkpad do you have? My first RH8 install on a Dell didn't seem to find it but my Toshiba did. When you unplug it and plug it back in does RH send a familiar "beep?" If so, immediately check your /var/log/messages file, shift-g to the end and see if it gives you any info.
