replace the LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8 by LANG=fr_FR in /etc/sysconfig/i18n
then reboot (maybe restarting X could be enough, i don't be sure)

use Luxi Mono font for terminal
once choosen, ask the terminal to save its current configuration

since that everything displays fine
