Have you checked VMWare"s support? I have had smb service fail with a similar error message when samba got dumped without removing the file smb from /var/lock/subsys/. Close vmware and then start samba. If it fails, see if /var/lock/subsys/smb exists and if so remove it. Then try again. Error = Address already in use I cannot truly find an answer for this but I did do this command with the fllowing results - ps -ef|grep -i smb root 1331 1 0 09:05 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/vmware-smbd -D -l /dev/ Is it my vmware?
