yes this would seem accurate. SMB has always been a pig. NFS isn't
very good either, though I think it's faster then SMB. And over a WAN
SMB is even worse in my experience, scp is faster then SMB over a
1.5mbit vpn connection(local LAN, SMB is faster then scp).
