If I remember the command you need is "setenv TERM vt100 or
setenv TERM vt200" 

I am using an AST PC with windows 3.1 here and I use "setenv TERM vt100"
to connect to my RedHat 5.0 box.

I once do telnet from SUN machine and I used "setenv TERM vt200"
that was ok for me too.
