Cool! Telnet and no firewall! Can you say "hacker bait"? I knew you could!
Seriously, use ssh on your server instead (it should be installed by default) and use PuTTY as your client from a windows machine, or ssh from a linux machine. And install the firewall rules. Otherwise, you are literally asking for trouble.
