Hey folks,

I'm a little confused about fonts under Linux, and reading more only seems to confuse the issue more. :-) I have a bunch of TrueType fonts that I used for web page design under Windoze, which are not available as Type 1 fonts, but I figured there was a way to get them to work with Linux. I did find some articles about it awhile back, so I installed the fonts and was able to get them working, sort of. That is, I can see them just fine in OpenOffice and a few other apps, but The GIMP doesn't seem to know they're there. At first, I just accepted that The GIMP just didn't support TTF's, because what I read suggested that not all applications did. But since then I've found quite a few references to GIMP users who regularly use TTF's, and the GIMP manual says that it natively supports any fonts that are installed under X, including TTF's. So why can't I see them? To top it all off, there seem to be several different ways to install fonts and I'm not sure which I should use, in fact I can't even remember which way I did use, as it was awhile ago now.

Can anybody point me in the right direction here?

Thanks,
Lee
