I'm building/reconfiguring an IBM Intellistation M Pro as a Linux Virtual Server to sit in front of several webservers.
Originally, I considered building out a load balancing reverse proxy with Apache, but have since learned of LVS (Linux Virtual Server). Contrary to the subject line I do know what LVS is; what I'm trying to sort out Red Hat's offering, Piranha.
Is Piranha Red Hat's LVS implementation? Is it built into the stock distribution of RHL 8 or RHL 9? Or is it a service/product purchase? Or a kernal patch? The RHL website is vague as to how to enable Piranha.
I would consider building out and custom configuring the kernal via the information at www.linuxvirtualserver.org, but the RHL path intrigues me greatly if it's built into the distro.
I understand the concepts of LVS fairly well, some of the deeper pieces are foggy, but I'm coming up to speed fairly quickly. This LVS is a major Linux piece in an otherwise Windoze dominated shop. I have installed the ServeRAID adapter and drives (RAID 5), an additional NIC and have outlined the rest of the install of the OS, but have still questions about the RHL LVS solution Piranha before I can continue.
Any help on answering this question is greatly appreciated.
Yours in Linux, Tim
