Vinny Valdez staggered into view and mumbled:
> #mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/jumpdrive

It may also be necessary to mount the drive as /dev/sda rather than /dev/sda1.  My 
laptop recognizes my USB floppy as 
/dev/sda.  If I try to mount /dev/sda1 I get a similar error about not knowing the 
filesystem even though the drive 
still spins as if it is on /dev/sda1.  HTH.
