I've tried the various things which people suggested
earlier today and unfortunately nothing worked because
the system is a Dual processor system. This is what
the bootup sequence says:

apm: BIOS version 1.2 Flags 0x07 (Driver version 1.16)
apm: disabled - APM is not SMP safe.

without this, the server will just not powerdown
regardless what I do.

However, when booting in UniProcessor mode, the kernel
loads APMd without issues AND powers off without
issues.

I stopped APMd and tested it in UP, and it still
powers off.

This is keeping identical BIOS settings with the only
difference being between booting from UP mode or SMP
mode. UP works, SMP don't.

This occurs on 3 SMP server I have, all running RH8
and 2 UP desktops running RH8.

So from all this, it doesn't look like I can get this
working as long as SMP mode is enabled.

Michael.
