Another useful resource for VAIO, specific to the 505 but may be useful

Also, if your modem is a Winmodem, I believe you're out of luck.  I'm not 
familiar enough with Sony's product line to know.  (I just know that 
today I discovered that Linux runs nicely on a 505, although it gets as 
hot as my PowerBook G3!)
