It was once true. recent versions of xcdroast are using cdrecord.
xcdroast still comes with cdrecord 1.6.something though - lately the
1.8beta versions have been more reliable (they also have more hardware
support).
It's possible to patch xcdroast into using the system cdrecord though. The
docs warn of doing this, but it works nevertheless. ;)
