If you're successfully booting with the installation program of your
linux distribution, then you should be able to hit <ALT><F2> (or F3, 
F4, f5, etc).  I think F2 will give you a blank screen with a command
line.  Try typing fdisk -l at that point, and it shoud print out
a table of information about your drive.
