Completely off topic, but perhaps a service:
If you plan to surprize someone with one of
these for Christmas, perhaps you ought to unpack
it and try it out yourself first. I just sent
back 3. One was recognized by the (my) scsi
card, but would only make clunking noises. It's
software said to "reset" the scanner, but turning
it off and on again did nothing. The other two
were not even recognized. Yes, I tried them with
the bare-bones scsi card they came with, also. In
another machine, even. Nada!
