easier said than done. most if not all cable companies and dsl providers do
a poor job of assigning host names. for example bell atlantic assigns me
with the ip 138.89.13.*, my hostname is adsl-138-89-13-*.bellatlantic.net.
now that hostname is way too complicated to give to your friends. it is a
whole lot easier to get an additional hostname from one of the free domain
name services. i don't think there will be a problem with running bind on
your machine, unless your terms of agreement specifically prohibit it.
