I am uploading to my service provider, which has kermit, zmodem,
ymodem and xmodem. When I download from there to my new machine
zmodem doesn't work. When I download to my old machine, after I've
given the command (via menu) to download via zmodem, I'm then told
to give the receive command on my own machine. When I'm downloading
to the new machine, I don't get the chance to do that. It just
takes off and then hangs. I've since, found, however, that xmodem
and ymodem do give me a chance to give the receive command on my
own machine, and both download without a problem, albeit xmodem is
damnably sloooooow. Ymodem is pretty fast, though, even though
it's not too informative. I don't know how far along it is until
the download is complete. I'll give kermit a try. I thought I
did and it hung, but I'm not sure so I'll try again. Thanks for
your help. I'm feeling pretty frantic this week. Basically, I'm
trying to save five years worth of discussion group posts before
they become unreadable (I assume or am afraid) at Y2K.
