There seems to be a number of entries missing from your kernel config.
I suggest that you run "make menuconfig" or "make xconfig". Check the
network options section for the masq modules. Make sure these are being
built as modules, and recompile.
Alternatively, you could use one of Red Hat's kernel RPMS. They have
masq support built in.
Also, you stated that the client box can see the server, but not that it
could reach outside. Is masquerading working? (It should be, even
without the modules)
