I can't do much better than this Steve

Like Alan says, the domain name www.xxxxxxx.com must be mapped to
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (by a dns server / not an apache problem), 

And as fart as the multiple virtual hosts go, you need to
define each VirtualHost to have it's own IP, and cert definition.

The specific URL for vitual hosts is

http://www.apache.org/docs/vhosts/index.html
