when I've got the brightness turned to a readable level for the $ prompt, I
can barely see X when I load it.  Vice versa, when I've got X turned to a
manageable brightness, the shell is almost completely washed out.  Shall I
merely go on dialing the brightness up and down or is there a way to fix
this?  :)
