Today, when I came in, Linus, the machine I've been wrestling with now for
the last
week, was dead (Kernal panic, Kernal Panic, Kernal Panic, VFS corrupt,
unrecoverable
was about the extent of what I could make out from the screen) .... I tried
reinstalling
6.1 (Linus was originally a 5.2 install that I upgraded to 6.1) and the
Graphical install
didn't work. It wouldn't let me choose packages on the custom install
(weird... I just
did one last week with the identical disk, and it worked fine). However,
the text
install seems to work properly... go figure. I think perhaps there are
still a few
too many bugs in the 6.1 install process. Hey, I can't even get install to
get past
Python loading on some machines... it just dies. I HAVE to install 5.2 on
those, and
that's just plain wrong.

I agree with you, Vidiot. 6.1 seems to be closer, install wise at least,
with a 0.3
Pre-Alpha version. Lucky for me, we can still go back to text install!

Going from RH6.0 to RH6.1 should not be a step backwards. The .1 indicates
that it is an improvement. I've not seen an improvement. I tell it like
it is. Overall I am a RedHat supporter, but there is something wrong when
the installation process takes steps backwards instead of forwards.

Yes, the graphical installer is neat, has buttons to push to tell it which
packages to install, but when it forgets the simple things like printer
and audio ports, one wonders what other simple things are missing.

Another basic question that one has to ask... how did it get through the
testing process? Missing printer and audio is so basic of a test.

The good stuff as well as the bad stuff has to be talked about on a list
like this.
