Thanks for responding, Alan.

The errors, collisions on that interface as reported by ifconfig are low
compared to the total Rx and Tx traffic shown.

I have not seen the messages in 35 hours or so since I noticed them. I
wondered whether it signalled a piece of hardware failing, but I guess
I'll have to wait and see.
