for windows nt servers and 2000 servers you have to edit the registry the
key is hkey_local_machine\currentcontrolset\services\brower\parameters and
set the keys "IsDomainMaster" to false and "MaintainServerList" to "no" and
startup to "4" (disabled) your windows machine won't complain about browser
elections after that even if the sevice starts by mistake. Your linux box
will then maintain your browse list. I have a ".reg" file you can run on
your servers to make these changes e-mail me off list if you want it.
