Bob, The only time I have seen behavior like this was while using the
demand option to pppd. I ended up sending a ping to the interface to
bring it up the first time and then it timed out pretty quick as I
recall. If this is not what you are doing then there is another
problem. Is this over a modem? If so is it trying to dialout during
boot?
