First, I'd update that kernel to a more recent version.  Get one from
either a 6.2 or 7.0 Red Hat mirror.  (Though, if you grab the package from

Is that a parity error in RAM, or from a SCSI hard disk?  I just had to
remove my Quantum Atlas III hard drive because of such parity errors (and
it was getting small).  In my case, I expect that the problem was in the
drive's firmware.  Rebooting the system did not fix the problem, and the
drive was not visible to the BIOS, though all the other drives were (so
the controller probably wasn't the problem, and software drivers
definately weren't).

If your parity error is in the RAM, you might want to run memtest86 on
your RAM to make sure that it's all good.  Look on
http://www.freshmeat.net to find it.

If it's in a SCSI hard disk, update your firmware from the manufacturer
(if available), and check cabling and termination.
