i ran into this as well, it's not a big deal.  as i understand it, the
kernel sources as they were shipped from RH had some "leftovers" from
a final SMP build someone did before bundling the source tree.

just start by doing a *total* clean with "make mrproper", and you'll be
good to go.

p.s.  if it makes you feel any better, i got *exactly* the same error
message you did.  so this really should fix it.
