There ARE patches for 2.2, but the 2.4.0-test series has been pretty
stable overall..

: Is the kernel upgrading process to 2.4.x easy on Red Hat 7.0?

Very easy. Pretty much a "compile & go" deal. Check the top-level
Makefile, and make sure it's using "kgcc", rather than gcc or cc. If you
don't use kgcc, you'll be an extremely unhappy person - the kernel won't
finish building.

: Like I've said previously, I haven't followed Linux news for a while. As I

: (involved upgrading modutils and other trivial things)

Just make sure you've got the latest errata fixes installed, you'll be
fine. My desktop PC right now is:

RH 7.0 w/all issued updates
Kernel 2.4.0-test11
ALSA 0.5.10
CUPS 1.1.4
No extra magic required...
