Okay, following Giulio Orsero's suggestion and turning off PnP on
the SCSi card, things seems to be progressing.

status gives me a different out put now. Before, it was telling me:

    [root@c41:~]# mt -f /dev/st0 status
    SCSI 2 tape drive:
    File number=-1, block number=-1, partition=0.
Tape block size 0 bytes. Density code 0x0 (default).
Soft error count since last status=0
    General status bits on (10000):
    IM_REP_EN

    Now, it says:

    [root@c41:~]# mt -f /dev/st0 status
    SCSI 2 tape drive:
    File number=0, block number=0, partition=0. <- different
Tape block size 512 bytes. Density code 0x24 (DDS-2). <- different
Soft error count since last status=0
General status bits on (41010000): <- different
    BOT ONLINE IM_REP_EN <- different

Hey, this is a good sign. It sees it now. It sees the tape (file
number, block number, tape blocks, density, and that it's online. Oh,
and the 'offline' command works now. Woo! Now I need to go try Arkeia,
see if IT works.

    Thanks guys!
