That's what I did:

in arch/i386/defconfig below the line
CONFIG_USB_STORAGE_DEBUG
I added
# CONFIG_USB_STORAGE_HP8200e is not defined

in drivers/usb/Config.in below the line
bool '    USB Mass Storage verbose debug' CONFIG_USB_STORAGE_DEBUG
I added
bool '    HP-8230e Support' CONFIG_USB_STORAGE_HP8200e

Then make mrproper etc.

Is there anything else I have to do?
