rpm looks at the database of installed packages for most information.
The --redhatprovides flag causes rpm to look in a different database. To 
use the --redhatprovides flag, you need the rpmdb-redhat package 
installed. Installing that package gives rpm access to a database 
containing information about all the packages included in the 
distribution.
