Do you have antialised fonts enabled in KDE?
If so, you might try disabling them and see if that helps.

/etc/X11/XftConfig has a lot of changes in the version included in the 
recent upgrades.

I just tried Netscape here, and it looks fine under KDE with antialiased 
fonts.
