My son's school has following RH7.2 set up:
Server 1: SAMBA, Domain Controller, DHCP; 1 NIC connected to internal
network
Server 2: Firewall, Squid: 2 NICs, one public, one private.

All workstations are Win98SE

We have been asked to be provide capability to restrict internet access for
individual students. As I see it there are two options:

Option 1: Set users/passwords under squid and have students log in 2X. Once
to SAMBA/DC, second time when open IE to access internet. The same user
ID/password combo could be used.

Option 2: Run policies based upon user ID (and whether student should have
internet access) when student logs in to SAMBA DC. Presumably, we can
establish a Win98 policy that prevents access to IE for students not having
internet access.

Any comments or suggestions for folks on which option would be best
considering admin and set up issues? Use of single log in (option 2) is
certainly easier from the user point of view, as well as admin (only one set
of password files).

Are there other alternatives we should consider?

Thanks for your time.
