You need to make sure that the alias in /etc/modules.conf references
the correct module, and that the initrd contain the correct driver. Try
switch to the console after the install/upgrade completes, and recreate
the initrd with the correct module. Something like this:
-ctrl-alt-F2
-chroot /mnt/sysimage bash
-less /etc/grub.conf (find the initrd name)
-vi /etc/modules.conf
(or pico, emacs ... just change the scsi_hostadapter alias)
-mkinitrd -f --with=aic7xxx_old /boot/{initrd name} {kernel rev}
(possibly "mkinitrd --with=aic7xxx_old /boot/initrd-2.4.18-3.img
2.4.18-3" or "mkinitrd --with=aic7xxx_old /boot/initrd-2.4.18-3smp.img
2.4.18-3smp")
-exit
-ctrl-alt-F7 (or F1 if in text mode)
