Here is a small excerpt from my setup and it may work for you JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/j2sdk1.4.0_01 CLASSPATH=.:$JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/rt.jar:$JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/javaplugin.jar:$JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/tools.jar export JAVA_HOME, CLASSPATH If it doesn't work, please post your /etc/profile to this forum as well as info about your package.
