        Thank you for prodding me on this.

        The problem was that the "ncurses-devel" RPM was NOT on the 
(1st) Red Hat 7.2 Professional install disk - "ncurses-5.2.x" was. 
The development RPM was not. I had to look on RPMfind.net to get the 
package.
