what happens if you say no when it asked to overwrite?

What ftp server is running on the linux box?

You may have to get a smarter client, but seems like I used to use wsFTP
when I was a windows kinda guy and liking it but I don't recall ever
having to restart a session.  

is there a setting for resume/restart in there somewhere?
