Humm... I'ld rebuild the rpm database if I were you. As root, run the command "rpm --rebuilddb -v -v" . If that doesn't work, you might want to consider forcing a fsck of the partition on which /var/resides on the next reboot. "tune2fs -c 9 -C 8 /dev/hdaX" where X is the number of the partition.
