Start screen... do your stuff. Use the ssh trigger key to kill your connection (a tilde '~', then a period '.' after a new line. I.e. '<Enter>', '~.' will terminate your connection) Later, when you get in you type in screen -R [I prefer screen -x instead] but that's it.
