Nobody replied.

I don't have RAID, and my system is miniscule.

I put /boot in a separate partition so other things blowing up don't clobber
this partition (as easily).
I put /var and /tmp in separate partitions because blow-ups tend to leave
scrap there more than anyplace else.

swap is in its own partition for the obvious reasons.

/ (including usr, bin, etc, and everything else) is in the BIG partition.

What I wish is that /etc/mtab were (by standard and design) moved elsewhere
so that the BIG partition could be read-only.
/proc/mtab would be ideal.
