That's revisionist history. I'd say 90 percent of Red Sox nation (Jerry Remy was the worst) gave up on Pedroia at the time. He was too small and his swing was too long and he was hitting .172 on May 1, after going .191-.258.303 in 31 games at the end of 2006. The support for Alex Cora was deafening.
