8 hits, a walk and 5 ER over 5 innings against the Jays? Even "passable" sounds generous to me. How about disappointing?

Decent is not as accurate as passable. On Apr 11, 2012, at 8:44 AM, Tom Salemi <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> wrote: Guy gave up five runs, right? In six innings? Not a disaster but I think decent is generous. I don't quite understand the overly high hopes for him (though I admit a few of the strike outs were pretty.) Anything below 50 is usually a loss. I liked that we threw almost 100 pitches, although he certainly needs to be more efficient and spread them over 7 innings, not 5. But he only walked one, had 6 K's and threw 2/3 of his pitches for strikes. Between him and Doubrant, I can see having decent starters for the time being, assuming both will improve but also have some bumps in the road. I do think that Bobby V has over-thunk himself a bit at times. Leaving Thomas in there to face a rightly with Albers ready was dumb, as he admitted afterwards. I guess he has some rust to know off his game as well. I'd sure like to see some consistency from the offense, too. Glad Youk is off the schneid, and Ryan Sweeney has been a pleasant surprise so far, although it's amazing to see a guy that big hitting singles. And it seems like Papi is going to continue to do damage. I did see that Pedroia jammed his shoulder, hope that doesn't turn into a season-ling thing....
