On the afternoon of the first reports of the Golfgate, Valentine basically said if the reports were true Becket didn't do the smartest thing by playing. That night, after having a few hours to "ponder," he backed up and said no one ever hurt themselves golfing. Again, my subject line was "consider the source" but the account makes a lot of intuitive sense to me.
